For many returning citizens, choosing a career path is the easiest part; it’s being accepted in the path that is the biggest barrier. However, with the right preparation, that barrier begins to crumble.
“It's not what you achieve, it's what you overcome. That's what defines your career.” – Carlton Fisk

About the Hack-A-Thon
COABE is proud to announce that Literacy Behind & Beyond the Walls Committee will be hosting the very first Behind & Beyond the Walls Prison Literacy Hack-A-Thon. The Hack-A-Thon will take 4-5 vetted adult literacy programs, projects, or applications, and will engage COABE participants from across the country in the development and prelaunch of each program, all in three virtual sessions. COABE participants with an expertise in adult literacy behind our prison walls and working with men and women upon their release, will be tasked with creating and generating a finished product for use by those working to educate and assist men and women returning home from incarceration. The four teams and topics covered are: learning activities, academic mentoring/tutoring, academic bridge and career pathways.
COABE is proud to sponsor the Literacy Behind & Beyond the Walls Committee Hack-A-Thon. The Reentry Literacy Hack-A-Thon selected a project focusing on Career Pathways and engaged COABE participants from across the country in the development and prelaunch of this project. COABE participants with an expertise in adult literacy behind our prison walls and working with men and women upon their release, were tasked with creating and generating a finished product for use by those working to educate and assist men and women returning home from incarceration.
